SICILY. Galaria. Circa 460-450 BC. Litra (Silver, 13 mm, 0.63 g). ΣΟΤΕR Zeus seated left on low throne, holding scepter surmounted by an eagle in his right hand. Rev. CAΛA Dionysos standing front, head to left, holding kantharos in his right hand and grape bunch on vine in his left. Campana, Galaria, 1a (D1/R2). HGC 2, 331. Jenkins, Coinages, Group I. SNG ANS 1 (same dies). SNG Lloyd 949 = SNG Stockholm 413 (same dies). Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. A beautifully toned example struck on a broad flan. Somewhat porous and with a die break on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
